Welcome to Cub Scouts Pack 80. Our Cub Scout pack is affiliated with Josiah Haynes School. Our monthly pack meetings are held at Memorial Congregational Church. We welcome all boys between the ages of 6 and 11. If you have a son who is in the first through fifth grade, and is interested in finding out more about Cub Scouts, we would love to talk with you. Please contact email@example.com if you have any questions! We look forward to hearing from you!
The Pinewood Derby has been officially scheduled for Saturday afternoon, February 6, 2015
Just one month away!
The schedule is as follows:
Thursday, February 4th Car Weigh In at Memorial Congregational Church 6-8PM Friday, February 5th Set Up night at MCC after 6PM Saturday, February 6th Official Race Day (~12:00) Saturday, February 6th Break down of all race gear and props after race
You can pick up the official Pinewood Derby Kit at the Dufault's residence, 84 Silver Hill Road. The kits will be in a bin located at the door next to the garage. Feel free to just take your kit. There is no need to ring the doorbell (or knock on the door) as the dog will go nuts.
We need many volunteers to make this event a success. Please take a look below and consider volunteering your time to help with this big event.
Unofficial weigh-in: These volunteers will help to make last minute changes to the cars to ensure that they meet the size and weight requirements prior to the official weigh-in. This volunteer will often add or remove weights from the contestant’s cars, use tools and glue to secure any loose parts and add graphite to the wheels.
Official weigh-in: These volunteers will register the contestant’s cars and weigh the cars using the official scale.
Friday night: Track set up &/or decorations: Only requires about 2 hours starting at 6PM.
Saturday: Runners: Your responsibilities are to gather the cars in preparation for each heat, and collect them at the end. Announcers: Two volunteers needed. Here is your moment of glory. You get the honor of being the MC for half of the race. Repair table: Your responsibilities are to assist with any last minute repairs prior and during the race.
Snack table: Four one hour shifts from 12-4PM. Ideally, we can get two volunteers per shift. Your responsibilities are to help feed some very hungry drivers and their fans.
If you would like to volunteer, please e-mail either Mike Dufault or Mike Helgeson at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. If you signed up to volunteer earlier in the year, thank you. I will be contacting you shortly to confirm your availability.
Finally, please remember that this is a parent and scout effort. It can be a lot of work to build a car. The best approach is a slow and steady pace allowing time for the many steps. When completed, you and your son will share many lasting memories of the fun you had. Pack 80 follows the Liberty District rules which are attached. Please note that it IS allowable to drill your own holes for the wheels, BUT it is important that the length of the wheel base complies with the official rules.
